Reviewers' Choice Award at INTERACT 2025
Our paper “Tell-XR: Conversational End-User Development of XR Automations” received the Reviewers’ Choice Award at INTERACT 2025, one of the premier conferences in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI).
The work is the result of a collaboration between the CG3HCI Lab at the University of Cagliari and the HIIS Lab at ISTI–CNR Pisa, within the framework of the Italian PRIN project “EUD4XR”.
A video presentation of the work is available on YouTube.
🧠 About Tell-XR
Tell-XR explores how conversational interfaces can empower end-users to create automation rules in Extended Reality (XR) environments.
By combining natural language interaction with a rule-based reasoning engine, the system enables users to express and configure behaviors in immersive spaces without the need for programming skills — making XR environments more intelligent, adaptive, and user-friendly.
🤝 A Collaborative Effort
This achievement stems from a close collaboration between two leading Italian research groups:
-
CG3HCI Lab – University of Cagliari
Focused on interaction design, XR systems, and user-centered AI. -
HIIS Lab – ISTI–CNR, Pisa
Renowned for its long-standing research in Human–Computer Interaction, end-user development, and usability engineering.
🇮🇹 Supported by the EUD4XR PRIN Project
The research was carried out within the national project EUD4XR – End-User Development for eXtended Reality, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).
The project investigates how end-users can design, personalize, and automate XR experiences using intuitive interfaces and AI-driven support tools.
🏆 About INTERACT 2025
INTERACT is the flagship conference of the IFIP Technical Committee on Human–Computer Interaction (TC13).
It brings together researchers, practitioners, and designers from around the world to discuss advances in interaction design, usability, and human-centered technologies.
Receiving the Reviewers’ Choice Award is a recognition of excellence in research quality and innovation within the HCI community.
