Data Visualization (DV)

Applied Computer Science and Data Analytics Bachelor’s Degree

The course provides basic knowledge for analyzing, designing, and creating complex data visualizations. The student will learn to understand the data at his disposal and to find the most effective graphical representation, choosing between known visualization systems or designing new ones.

During the course, the following topics will be covered, both from a theoretical and practical point of view (laboratory exercises):

  • Introduction to Data Visualization
  • The what-why-how method
  • Data types, datasets, and attributes
  • Types of operations to perform “for” and “with” the visualization
  • Visualize data in tabular form
  • Visualize graphs and trees
  • Visualize geometric and geographic data
  • The importance of interaction
  • Complex visualizations on multiple views
  • Guidelines for creating a “good” visualization
